Astrid and I started to find places that we wants to film each scene of our story board. My teacher, Mrs. Henderson, suggested that we try to be as original as possible. We thought it would be a unique idea to incorporate the green screen into our movie opening to better portray the setting. We are very excited to do this and picked out several green screen backgrounds which help establish setting and time. During the interrogation scene, we are interested in using an area in the corner of our classroom because the walls look plain and we could take close up shots. Plus, we would like to get creative with the crime scene and make it ourselves rather than projecting it onto the green...

Preparing to Film actors,  costumes,  props,  locations,  dates and times,  scripts, and film equipment.  We would like to have three main  actors  in our film opening. Two detectives and one suspect. The detectives will be Astrid and I. The suspect will be Zoe, another student in our class. Our costume will consist of business casual attire, and possible a hat or coat, if we can find one in a thrift store. We want to look as though we are modern detectives working in an office, but I also want to make it clear that is who we are so people do not get confused by our clothing. I think through out dialogue we will also make it obvious that we are detectives. We began working on our script this week because we realized we will have lots of dialogue and a voice-over. Story Boarding Astrid and I had to brainstorm for a good amount of time before actually writing on this page because we did not want to make a clique murder mystery movie opening. We want to do something relatively serious but then the plot twist at the end of the film opening is supposed to be viewed as funny and lighthearted. The movie opening begins with a detective, Astrid, examining a case file with confidential information about a crime and a suspect. She is going to have a close up shot of her hand reaching for the folder and then an over the shoulder shot of her reading the notes contained within it. Then, Another detective walks in to the office, most likely me, and I will examine the posters on the walls and information on the case. The shot will be wide angle enough that the office setting can be seen as well as the posters on the wall. The lighting will be three point or low key lighting to set the mood that there is evil on the loose! Diegetic banter will be heard...

Astrid and I were inspired to do a film opening on the mystery genre because we really enjoy plot development and emotion that the mystery genre evokes. For example, often times when I view a mystery film opening, emotions I feel include anxiety, suspicion, surprise, and excitement. I feel as though some mystery openings immerse the viewer so they feel as though they are the detective trying to figure out the clues. I really feel as though this is why the mystery genre was so enticing to us in the first place. Furthermore, the use of low lighting elements and point of view shots (from the detective, killer, or main character) gives mystery an element of erie-ness I think other genres can’t perfectly capture.  A movie we discussed previously in our group’s “Mystery Film Genre” powerpoint was Clue . Twilight (2008) drama: How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film? The title of the producer (company) is first displayed at 2:02, and at 2:06 the title "twilight" is displayed.  What images are prioritized in the opening sequence? the movie opens to a densely wooded forest, filled with thick shrubbery and fallen trees. An extreme close up of a deer's eye and zooming out to see the full deer by a pond gives the audience of the feeling that it is being watched. A point of view shot of a forest helps to give this effect. A follow shot of the small deer is displayed as if someone or something is running after it.  What connotations do the images carry? dark, anxious, and confused. Why is the deer running away frantically? Who or what is chasing it so quickly? How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset?
