Creative Critical Reflection (CCR)

Click HERE to view my CCR Law and Disorder was designed, produced, and edited by Madison Craumer and Astrid Nova. The CCR posted to this channel is made and voiced in its entirety by Madison Craumer and is my personal response to what I thought of the film making process. In no way does it copy Astrid's CCR and it is of my original thought and opinion that this reflection was based. Here is my script for the CCR: Questions: 1.How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues? In terms of story conventions, mystery detective films are often characterized by: films that focus on the unsolved crime (usually the murder or disappearance of one or more of the characters, or a theft), and on the central character, which is a strong, confident, detective-hero, as she meets various adventures and challenges in the cold and methodical pursuit of the criminal or the solution to the crime. The plot often centers on the deductive ability, p...

Movie Opener Final Draft

Law and Disorder: Click Here To View Film Opening *Note: Due to the unforeseen circumstances of the COVID-19 outbreak, and the mandatory school closure from 3/9/20-6/3/20, my partner and I were unable to make the few edits we wanted to change in our final draft. If we had been at school, we would have tried to export the video from Premiere Pro and re-upload the video to YouTube in hopes of a quality improvement. Furthermore, we would have added a close up of Astrid (Detective Santos') face during the interrogation scene. Despite being unable to make these changes due to the lack of editing software and green screen capabilities at our homes, we are very pleased with the product of our movie opening. Astrid and I worked very hard on it over the past few months. We learned a lot about how camera angles, editing techniques, sound, and lighting play a pivotal role in film making. I hope you enjoy watching our film opening!

Evaluating Peer Reviews

Peer Reviews: What I liked What confused me Suggestions The music fit the scenes very well I liked how using the green screen you made it seem like an actual office The close up of Zoe's eyes moving back and forth after being interrogated made me laugh and helped viewers to understand that she is nervous No There was nothing that stood out to me as confusing or in need of change I loved the editing and the backdrop of the opening. I loved the music they chose to have in the background. I felt that the music really gave the opening that investigative and mysterious feel. I loved the title because it sounds ironic and it adds some humor to the otherwise serious feel of the opening. I was confused who "Santos" was, but I am sure it is something that would be explained in the movie. I have no suggestions. I thought the opening was edited really well, the plot appeared to be fluent, and the...

Editing (Post 2)

Image
We are nearly finished editing. We need to implement cuts and sound. We have a voice over which we will be embedding today. All of our filming is officially over with. This is a preview of our first green screen of the office: We decided that we want to use typewriter text for the title screen. We think that will capture the mysterious element of the film opening. We will have to splice the video several times and either cut out mistakes in filming or embed other shots we took to bring about suspense.

Editing (Post 1)

Image
This week we finished filming and began editing. We had to re-shoot two scenes because we wanted to capture a better use of emotion within our time constraint. Using the green screen was a fun experience and we had to practice adjusting the pigmentation in Premiere Pro editing software. Here is Astrid and I finishing our filming in front of the green screen: And this is a photo of us editing our green screen footage and applying the correct backgrounds: Next week we will work with sounds. We want to have a mix of digetic and nondigetic sound in our movie opening. We will have a voice over of Astrid's thoughts during the footage of the crime scene to help display a flashback scenario. We have yet to discuss what font we will be using in our movie, but we have a few titles picked out which we like, one including: "Law and Disorder" because our movie is sort of a mystery spoof. We haven't discovered any major issues in our editing yet, despite having to re-shoot...

Beginning To Film (Post 2)

Image
We began filming with the green screen. It was confusing at first because we did not know how to transfer our video from our phone and upload it to Premiere Pro editing software but with the help of our teacher we figured it out. Then once we watched the video with the green screen background we realized that the lighting played a key role in the visibility of the background on the green screen. We had to refilm our original clip because our positioning impacted the quality of the background due to lighting issues. Much of this week was trial and error. We decided we liked using the green screen for the office scenes because it does help add a better sense of setting so we will continue to fine-tune our placement and editing skills.  We were able to practice with different shots and techniques to display emotion during the practice filming of our interrogation scene. Zoe, the suspect, was filmed with an extreme close up on her eyes darting back and forth to display nervousnes...

Beginning To Film (post 1)

Astrid and I started to find places that we wants to film each scene of our story board. My teacher, Mrs. Henderson, suggested that we try to be as original as possible. We thought it would be a unique idea to incorporate the green screen into our movie opening to better portray the setting. We are very excited to do this and picked out several green screen backgrounds which help establish setting and time. Here is a green screen background of the office that we liked:  Here are pictures of us practicing our scenes with the green screen:  We thought it would be best to have a mix of green screen and normal filming in our movie opening because it would incorporate different types of shots. During the interrogation scene, we are interested in using an area in the corner of our classroom because the walls look plain and we could take close up shots. Plus, we would like to get creative with the crime scene and make it ourselves rather than projecting it onto the green...
Preparing to Film actors,  costumes,  props,  locations,  dates and times,  scripts, and film equipment.  We would like to have three main  actors  in our film opening. Two detectives and one suspect. The detectives will be Astrid and I. The suspect will be Zoe, another student in our class. Our costume will consist of business casual attire, and possible a hat or coat, if we can find one in a thrift store. We want to look as though we are modern detectives working in an office, but I also want to make it clear that is who we are so people do not get confused by our clothing. I think through out dialogue we will also make it obvious that we are detectives. We began working on our script this week because we realized we will have lots of dialogue and a voice-over. In terms of props , we will need an evidence or case file for the suspect and we will also need a crime scene for the flashback. In our first scene we will need to make poste...

Story Boarding Astrid and I had to brainstorm for a good amount of time before actually writing on this page because we did not want to make a clique murder mystery movie opening. We want to do something relatively serious but then the plot twist at the end of the film opening is supposed to be viewed as funny and lighthearted. The movie opening begins with a detective, Astrid, examining a case file with confidential information about a crime and a suspect. She is going to have a close up shot of her hand reaching for the folder and then an over the shoulder shot of her reading the notes contained within it. Then, Another detective walks in to the office, most likely me, and I will examine the posters on the walls and information on the case. The shot will be wide angle enough that the office setting can be seen as well as the posters on the wall. The lighting will be three point or low key lighting to set the mood that there is evil on the loose! Diegetic banter will be heard...
